The Matrix. (the trilogy)
Saturday, November 14th, 2009“The system” keeps producing heroes in moments of crisis, who make the choice, ultimately, to preserve the system if the alternative would seem to be the destruction of everything.
Nevermind the alternative, there’s something to be said for “heroes” being part of “the system.” Myths are a constant, across cultures, telling us how to uphold what we believe in against everything we believe in.
Yes? No?
And so choice is questionable, will is questionable, as the choices we make are driven by the culture that guides us. But we (hopefully) learn to make such choices on our own, taking into consideration the systems that guide us, if we have enough guidance to see the systems for what they are. Self-reflection must be taught. Understanding ourselves as capable of rejecting things we are taught is one thing. Understanding ourselves as part of a larger whole is another. Understanding that the “whole” is something we are being taught is yet another distinct thing.
Damn these films suck. But I find acorns of truth in them. Which are difficult to digest and pass.
