You Decide

OK, let’s be honest, Britney’s original is better, but Franz Ferdinand’s cover shows promise:

Britney’s version:

And this just because I promised Sara, if I posted Britney, I’d post Lady Gaga:

“Ma-ma-ma-ma…” Woo!!

Crunch Crunch Crunch

I have had this song in my head all morning, so naturally I had to look it up and watch it before leaving for work. And anyway, who doesn’t like Captain Vegetable??

Which then reminds me of Alex’s old post sharing the Sesame Street Subway song.

And while searching for these things, I accidentally came across this vintage Sesame Street “Bus Stop” animation, so evocative of the sorts of little shorts I remember loving. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. Bus stop!

Boxee

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Boxee is really cool, except the music part which doesn’t understand iTunes or AAC file metadata, but it’s still in Alpha and I hear they’re working on it.

But for TV/Movies/YouTube/Hulu/etc. it’s really cool.

Anyone else out there using it? It has a social aspect to it that I can’t play with waahhhh :(

Haha. In other news, I hate updating WordPress, I wish they’d slow down their releases.

Advertising & Gender

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Gender Pop takes an insightful look at so-called “male-bashing” in commercials, and links to a great tear-down of an Ask Men article on the subject.

Unfortunately I have nothing to add but to say it reminded me of a relative’s friend who was doing a project for a class in germany involving comparisons between German beer commercials and US beer commercials, which sorta makes you wish you lived in Germany…

Doctor Thoughts

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Early this morning I was thinking of watching the latest episode of Doctor Who but last night Alex told me in chat she hadn’t seen it yet, so I decided to wait & watch it with her. I can always watch things a second time, but it’s nice to share a show we like together anew.

So instead I decided to watch an old episode since I had a couple on my laptop. I notice I often choose to watch only a few favorites, and with two-parters, I usually choose just the second part to watch the big climaxes. So last night I decided to watch “Aliens of London,” the first part of the Slitheen story. It was really interesting, not having seen it in so long. A lot about Rose, her mum, Mickey, and even Eccleston’s Doctor, is established in that episode. It’s her first time back to her family after leaving with him. The 9th Doctor pilots the TARDIS very differently from the 10th Doctor, his choices are still rather uninfluenced by Rose… He readily commands Earth troops in the hospital where the faux alien is being held (none of the 10th Doctor’s abhorrence of guns and orders, which fits with the 9th being scarred by the Time War)… etc.

It led me to go look in the DW Forum’s series 1 area (I usually read the site for spoilers and current series discussion), where I found out that the Daleks might have not been in the new series due to rights issues and that Russell T Davies had commissioned the design of a new monster to take their place, with the interesting thing being that it was specifically to take their place in the multi-season story arc that is sort of wrapping up this season. He ended up using the idea at the end of series three with The Master, and I thought it worked well, but it’s pretty neat knowing that Davies was planning that all the way from the beginning. And the backup idea that the Toclafane might have been the creatures that took out the Time Lords would have worked well. Nevertheless, I like it better that it’s the Daleks.

Oh god I’m tired. Sara left at 4 this morning and I couldn’t quite get back to sleep. Hence the Doctor Who watching. But I’m a bit energized about returning to New York tomorrow, and hopefully finding good weather for the weekend. I’m looking up information about the Cloisters for Friday and pondering seeing a movie or something. Feeling a bit silly ‘cuz I put on CK Euphoria Blossom today, er, just for the heck of it… Makes me think of good things ;)
