Private Trip

So, this weekend I’m going skiing. Went with friends earlier this season (December), had fun, want to go again and don’t see it happening soon unless I do it myself, so, there I am.

Alex will be coming home late Friday night (from pastry chef classes), and I need to make sure I have myself in bed already, because I’ll need to get up at 5 AM. I’ll be picking up a ZipCar (already reserved) by 6 AM to drive up to Hunter Mountain, the place with which I’m familiar. This first trip alone will be a bit expensive; I could troll craigslist and my social circles to see if anyone would come with, to share some of the expense, but I want to go alone once, take a private lesson, maybe some group lessons later in the day (if I pay with AmEx, there’s a discount on those!) …I want to focus on improving my skiing, which I think will be easiest alone, not having to worry about keeping track of other people, or them keeping track of me.

Things to consider:

Not only do I need to get up way early, pick up a ZipCar for the first time, drive upstate for the first time, etc., I need to consider “support supplies.” First, it’s a long drive and I’ll need some entertainment, so I’d better make sure my iPod FM transmitter thingy is working, or get a new one. Haven’t used it in ages. Yeah, the car has a CD player, but…

I’ll need some coffee, better make sure the pot is set to go off, and know where the thermos is (I think it’s still gathering dust on top of the fridge…) I’ll need some water, too, a couple clif bars, some fruit & nuts… No point bringing reading materials, I’m driving! Wish I knew where the rest stop my friends went to was, but I’ll find someplace to stop along the way. Let’s see, what else…

Oh, I’d better make sure I don’t twist my right knee this time, I need to drive back home!

I’m excited, I love adventures like this. I miss them. So, here we go! “sírva vigad az Ádám”

(And yes, for anyone thinking I’m missing the depth of meaning of that phrase, I’m not. It’s very me, actually. And yes, “the Adam,” it’s a longtime joke of my life. To understand the Adam is to know the Adam… Blame my sister!)
