Fear, Chances And Possibility

It’s so comforting to know I’m not alone. It’s one of the comforts of xkcd, even when it’s a sad comfort. But the thing about xkcd is that it doesn’t just get melancholic, it also inspires.

…if xkcd is currently making headlines, it’s because Munroe’s message to “get out and live!” is provoking a stream of real-time events…

“I had someone write in and say that he’d been hanging out with this girl for a while, and then one day she just kissed him out of the blue,” Munroe said. “Since then, they’ve been together. She told him later that she’d done it because she’d read a comic that suggested you take more chances. I think everyone needs to just relax a little bit. People do meet people.”

I spent last night, after work, helping prepare floral decorations with a friend and her coworkers, for an event I know nothing about. I was up until 3am, ate junk food and coffee (which I sort of regret but what the hell), and I don’t care if I never do it again, I had a blast.

What will the future bring? No idea. Can’t wait to find out. In the immortal words of the less-than-mortal (or is he?) Doctor: “These human beings. Consider their potential. From the day they arrive on the planet, and blinking step into the sun. There is more to see than can ever be seen. More to do than – No hold on – Sorry, that’s The Lion King. But the point still stands.”

Or more concisely, in reaction to an accusation that he’s just looking for trouble: “Trouble’s just the bits in-between! It’s all waiting out there, and it’s brand new to me!”
