Other People’s Music
So let’s say you go to a party. Maybe it’s a New Year’s party. And the hosts and their friends are playing a bunch of popular music, which they like. Let’s say, something like “hits of 2006″ or whatever. And it’s not really your favorite music. What do you say?
Well, nothing, obviously. But if they’re really into it and sort of wondering why you aren’t, you kinda have to say something, particularly if they bring it up.
I’ve decided, in future, best to simply say, sorry, I don’t know this music. I don’t necessarily think it’s bad, I’m not trying to put you down and be a snob. I just don’t know it. Oh, and please stop trying to educate me about “what I’ve missed.” I not only don’t know it, I don’t care to. Let’s just have fun!
I’m not going to go asking you to put on something I like, or putting down your music. It’s your party! And I’ll thank you to do the same at my next party when I just happen to have music playing that I like (imagine that!) but which most people don’t know. When I do that, I’m not trying to evangelize the music, I’m just playing what I like. Let’s just have fun!
