The Community Board 8 calendar (w/ agendas) is available for May. (The email notice I received also includes links to PDFs of the various agendas and the CB8 bulletin.) I’d like to highlight a few items of interest to me:

Tuesday, May 2, 7:00 pm, Transportation Committee: The 7th item on the agenda, “Discussion of the Car-Free Central Park campaign,” is of great interest to me. Unfortunately my Tu-Th BIO 220 class will prevent me from attending. Perhaps someone else can go and let me know what’s up? But then again it may have no new info for those of us already acquainted with the program.

Thursday, May 4, 6:30 pm, Parks Committee: Item 1, “An Informational Presentation regarding the water park to be located on Randall’s Island” — I had no idea there were plans for a water park on Randall’s Island! Interesting, though I again will be prevented from attending, and I’m less concerned with this than a Car-Free Central Park. I do love a good water park, but expect one in the middle of the city would be extremely crowded.

Monday, May 8, 7:00 pm, 2nd Ave Subway Task Force: Now here’s one I can just barely make and am greatly concerned about. A city with foresight would have begun building a 2nd Ave subway line 20 years ago.

…and that’s about it. The full CB8 board meeting on May 17 might be worth attending, at least the first part, for the Manhattan Borough President’s Report alone, but since I leave for San Diego on May 18 I’ll probably be better off packing and going to bed early.
