Right Wing Extremism & “Liberal Media Bias”
Kevin Drum has some good thoughts about this over at Washington Monthly. The short short version:
Lefty extremists actively crave attention. [...] Bible Belt Christians, by contrast, don’t. [...] the result of all this is that most Americans are well aware of lefty extremism [...but] aren’t well aware of Christian extremism. [...] when something like this screed by Frank Pastore shows up in the LA Times, readers are shocked. What they don’t realize is that within their own fire and brimstone circles, this kind of talk is commonplace among Bible Belt Christians. And there are way more of them than there are members of the Earth Liberation Front.
Yet more reason, I think, for Dems to be fighting back all the time, highlighting the nutcases on the right. Because the right takes every opportunity to slam even the most moderate of lefty voices.
