It’ll Probably Suck But I Can’t Help Getting Excited

Thursday, July 8th, 2004

Apparently, as early as March, 2003, Gillian Anderson revealed that David Duchovny, Robert Patrick, Annabeth Gish and herself have all signed up for The X-Files 2. From the same source we learn that, a year later, David Duchovny said “It’s definitely happening. Chris has a great idea for the new movie and I expect we’ll be able to begin shooting in the next year or so.I think we’re going to be introducing a new character in the film which will allow us to cast a major star, male or female, who will want to be part of an exciting supernatural thriller. I think the new movie will appeal to both our core fans and a broad audience. I’m very excited about it.”

Me too!

But isn’t there anything more recent? Sure! As recently as July 7, 2004, we learn that X-Files creator Chris Carter has worked out a story with Frank Spotnitz (who he also worked with on the first film), and “there’s a negotiation with (Fox) going on.” As Duchovny also recently pointed out, “When you have the four major players in the enterprise wanting to do it, it will happen. It’s just a matter of when. I hope it happens within the next year.” And my favorite bit at the end of that short story: he says, “I think it would be fun at this point, a few years removed, to get back into it and do it.”

I’ll bet he does, and Gillian probably does, too, considering their careers since the show ended! Well, actually, I think it could be fun, too. I kind of miss the simple alien conspiracies of my youth, what with all the modern real conspiracies.

Now I just have remember to go rent the last couple seasons of the show to review before the new movie comes out… in, what, 2005? 2006?
