The paradox of “good for each, bad for all,” and its reciprocal “bad for each, good for all,” are arguably the very foundation of social life and the fundamental justification of government. Furthermore, the failure of the radical right – libertarians, free-market absolutists, self-described “conservatives” – to acknowledge this paradox, renders their doctrines politically untenable and morally indefensible.
